Here's a start in no particualar order....

1. Move Topic: The ability to move a topic from one forum to another (in case it was posted in an inappropriate location, off topic, etc.).

2. Message Editor: WYSIWYG display with buttons for adding formatting codes and such (reduces errors).

3. Member Verification Profile Link: When verifying a new member it would be great if you could display that person's profile data before verification. Cool extra credit: When the admin is looking at an unverified member's profile, display and "Activate Member Now" button. Sweet.

4. Blog Search: Expand the Search feature to include Blogs.

5. Deleted Member Listing: When a member is deleted, but the username is not freed for future use, there is no way to view a list of those names. I'd like to be able to use the list to release the name (if the need arose) at a future date. [WAY low priority--may never need it.]

6. CSS: Gimme the power! More support of CSS.

7. Menu Formatting: More control of the menus. Let us choose the item seperator string. Also, the ability to add items to the menu would be handy.

8. Usability Improvements: The stuff I'd like to see sooner rather than later are Deletion Confirmations in some of the areas and Cancel buttons when faced with a single committed choice. Example: Any confirmation of an action "Do you really want to do this?" should show both "Yes" and "Cancel" where the cancel button simply steps back in the page history. I'll probably be adding this myself, but it should be included in the standard releases.

Many of these items are being considered or are already in progress for the next release.

One thing to note, moderators or admins already have the capability to move a topic. If an admin edits a topic you will see a drop-down box allowing you to assign it to one of the other forums.

Let's add to the list :

1. More specific security. The ability to allow seperate registration for each forum created or access to all.

I've created a custom image menu control that allows control over menu items, buttom images used, user level, you can add menu items decided whether they are visible when logged on/off/both, parameters can be passed to the url etc via a .config file. Once I've clean the code up I'll post it along with the multiple file upload control and smiley insert control I've writen.

I've changed the admin pages to use a WYSIWYG control as I'd previously one on another site I'd written. Just download Freetextbox (free version) and replace the existing textbox on those pages. If I get the chance this week I'll try and write a control for the user pages that only uses the DMG formatting codes.

I would like to see more control over items that are shown. I dont want my users to see the stats that gets displayed at the bottom of the page.
Since i use my own Membership API there are more members than just members that use the forums so these stats are not stats i want user to be able to see.

Also since i use my own membership api, i just create a blank password and create a simple user account for use on the forums, so i also need to disable the links on member names so that the member page doesnt display.
So being able to disable members name link would be great, since you can remove the user cp link wen you create your own menus it would be good to disable other ways users can get to the pages you dont want them to has access too also.

Would be nice to be able to get a copy of the up coming v3 to be able to give more feedback for such things are 'new features' and bug reports too

Thanks

also
page options, like "Order Posts By" ie newest to oldest or oldest to newest

I know that there are posts about date formats, and i will have to check my webconfig out again but i am pritty sure that i have these config settings to set my date format for my region, but the forum still shows US format.. having in the admin a formatstring option where admins can set dd/MM/yy or yyyy etc would be better.. that way it can be hard coded in your code on how we want dates to be shown.. plus we could then get 24hour time in the date stamp too

Thanks for the comments ozie. I think you will be happy with some of the more options that admins can have with version 3.0. I have a few answers for some of your issues.

There is an option in the administration "Main Configuration" to turn of the statistics at the bottom of the forums page and the members page. You just have to set this to "No" and the member stats will not show.

The main menus in version 3.0 will be completely editable from the admin screen, so you won't have to worry about member buttons there, but taking away the member link on posts won't be possible. Your best bet would be to just modify the profile.aspx page so that it goes backwards to the previous page or just forwards somewhere else.

There are some new date format features going into the new version that might help you with date displays.

Send me a PM about possibly getting v3.0 a few days early to be one of our testers.

Apologies for the delay I've been away from the forum for a while been playing with the megabbs forum software which has some nice features like calendars, rss feeds but is nasty asp and from what I read version 3.0 is going to fill most of the gaps and be allot easier to customise.

Anyway back to the question in hand :

I'll dig out the relevant 2.3 page from a backup if you want it or I'll add fckeditor to version 3.0 when it's released.

drop me a pm.

Adding to the list:
-Forum Code UI - perhaps there could be a GUI tool for forum posts, so users don't have to manually type it out.
-Smileys - A lot of people visiting the forums of any site that uses this forum system like using smileys (I am not one of them), but it would be nice...
-Polls - Either I'm not looking hard enough, but I don't see a way to add polls. Along with that, settings to allow/dis-allow polls in specific forums.
-Display Name - What is a user made a username theeuneek, but wanted to be displayed The Unique
-Display Title (with link) of Latest Post in the "Last Post" area - I am used to this in other forums, and it is just annoying.
-Horizontal rule between signature and message - To some users, the signature contains goop, and there sould be a horizontal rule between the two.

I also found a good forum system, but for php. Because I wanted ASP.Net, so I found this place. A feature-list of the php one can be found here.

Great Job on the Forum!!!

One thing that I think would be nice is a dropdown box on every page that allows posting or replying that will show all photos uploaded by that member and allow the user to drag a photo into the post. Even if the WYSIWYG feature is not in the next release, at least the ability to drag the pictures from a list of thumbnails into "Fourm code" format would be nice. It would also be nice to allow members to upload photos directly from the posting/replying areas. Ho!Ho!Ho!

I like the idea of allowing member photos to be drug or attached into a post.

Users do have the ability to upload photos to topics already, but I think I've made it a little to convoluted how to turn it on. It needs to be a user-right attached to the forum rankings, and then you would need to disable whichever file types you don't want them to be able to upload from the forum options screen.
